Because we do not all see things the same way, does mean that some peoples views are worth less, or should be outlawed? In a free democracy, should the voice of racism have an equal opportunity to be heard?

Okay, to be clearer, for those that need it - Answers is not a democracy, nor an uncensored forum in one. Yes, racists are undoubtedly writing on this forum, but I meant a more ligitimate platform, which often seems to be denied due to new and ever tightening laws.

Only if they are open minded, and not just blasting off about everything they don't like, just because they don't like it. An understanding person wants change. An ignorant person just wants to downgrade others.

What do you call answers? This place is full of racists speaking their mind. The fact is to some degree we are all biased in one way or another. We all feel more comfortable with one race or culture. I will not say Racist because I personally prefer a race and culture other than what I was born into. Honestly I think people who thing one race is Better than another are fools. Races are all the same it is the cultures that make the difference in people.
But I don't think it should or could be outlawed because then we start down the slippery judgement slope. It is hard to tell racism from a statement of fact. If a woman says she was raped by a white man/ black man/ hispanic man. Is that a racist comment. And if the same woman in her frustration and anger over the incident goes off on a racist rant, should that be illegal. There is a time and a place for everyone to talk. EVEN IF WE DON'T AGREE WITH THEM.

It depends really. I don't think a person who contantly spews hateful slurs should be given a forum to speak. A racist person could share their ideas in this forum if they wanted...they just have to follow the rules. But this isn't a democracy. It's a private forum owned by Yahoo! and they can outlaw any views they like.
Hate speech doesn't have a whole lot of value in society. People don't really want to hear it, and that's why there isn't a mainstream forum for it.

welli just think it il just descend into a slanging match, After all we have to look at the uselfullness of this forum. What purpose will it serve? So that we all get to hear how a group of disenfranchised, embittered, unbalanced people feel? The outcome is likely to be further divisions between races.
Also consider that if we listen to white racists view, we must also listen to black racists view in the interests of fairness. You know there are many black movements who think that white people are the devil (some think that white people descend from lizards). Are we gonna provide a forum for all those points of view too??

I think that racists should have the right to question people or they can never understand or change their opinions. If people shoot them down all the time in mid sentence then they will only become more agitated. I think it is wrong to say that things shouldn't be said. They should be asked why they have come to those conclusions but not censored.

Absolutely! Why should jail be the only place? You are free to bury your head in the sands of intolerance! When you choke to death I will see you in hell!

By the same token then, paedophiles, terrorists, murderers etc., should all be given a platform on which to air their unlawful views. Especially in a free democracy the rule of law is needed, and racism IS against the law. You can't pick and choose which laws you obey.

OK, at first I thought your question was sarcastic, and I was going to flame you.
You see, I thought it was in response to my demographic question about the ratio of black men to black women in the U.S.A., and I'm sick of being called a racist for asking honest questions that I'm really curious about, just because I happen to be white.
But yeah. I can't stand racism; it's something I despise. However, most people are racist in at least one way, usually dozens, and don't even realize it.
As far as blatant racial hatred goes, I may not agree with anyone who speaks it........but I will defend to the death his RIGHT to speak it.

We should all discuss this in a room in the dark.
When we can no longer tell who is who then maybe some of us might twig how stupid and pointless making an issue of race actually is.
(Designschoolgrad answers your question by the way perfectly)
