All geckos shed. The longer you have yours, the more you'll be able to predict when and how long the shedding will take. Husbandry is VERY important. The better the environment your gecko lives in, the more easily it will shed and the better it will feel for your gecko.

Make sure your southern leaf tail gecko has plenty of bark and hiding spots to he can camouflage easily as his skin sheds. The eyes will change slightly as will the skin which appears ashen and begins to flake. DO NOT PEEL your gecko's skin. It will be terribly traumatic for him, and you could pull it too soon and severely injure your little guy.

Misting will help, and worst case scenario, baby oil will help. I know it sounds weird, but it works.

Yes, they shed. The time between sheds will vary with the age of the lizard (young shed more frequently). In this species, the shedding skin helps camoflage them (they look even more bark- or lichen-like). You can tell when they're about to shed because the skin will lighten till it looks almost white.

It's nothing to worry about unless it's having trouble getting the old skin off - pay particular attention to the areas around the toes, eyes, and tail. You can mist with water to help them shed more easily.

Belonging to the lizard family, I would have to say yes (meaning the gecko is from the lizard family......not me).
