v - 4 (v-4) = 2 (v-1)
v - 4v + 16 = 2v -2
-3v - 2v = -2 - 16
-5v = -18
v = 18/5
v = 3.6

v - 4(v-4) = 2(v-1)
Multiply the numbers next to the brackets by everything inside them:
=> v - 4v - 4(-4) = 2v + 2(-1)
Now put v terms on the left and numbers on the right, changing signs for everything you move:
=> v - 4v - 2v = -2 - 16
=> -5v = -18
=> v = 18/5

If instead you meant
(v-4)(v-4) = 2(v-1)
then multiply out to get
v^2 - 8v + 16 = 2v - 2
=> v^2 - 10v + 18 = 0
=> v = 5 ± √7.
I think it is unlikely that this is what you want, though.

V - 4(v-4) = 2(v-1)
v- 4v+16=2v-2
-3v + 16 = 2v-2
+3v=+3v
16 =5v-2
18=5v
18/5=v

First multiply out the -4(v-4) and 2(v-1):

v - 4v + 16 = 2v - 2

This is -3v + 16 = 2v - 2

Then subtract 2v from both sides, and subtract 16 from both sides:

-2v -3v + 16 - 16 = 2v - 2v - 2 - 16

This is -5v = -18

Finally divide both sides by -5. This gives v = 18/5 or 3.6

v-4(v-4) = 2(v-1)

get rid of the brackets first

v + (-4)(v) + (-4)(-4) = (2)(v) + (2)(-1)

v -4v + 16 = 2v - 2

simplifying: 16 + 2 = 2v - v + 4v

18 = 5v

then v= 18/5 = 3.6

If you have written question down right this will be correct. If it is even slightly wrong then my answer wont be correct

Evaluate brackets first on both sides to give v-4v+16=2v-2

Then -3v+16=2v-2

Move -3v to other side giving 16=5v-2 then add 2 to each side giving 18=5v

v=3.6

As I said though it may not be right

v-4v+16 = 2v-2
-3v +16 = 2v-2
16 +2 = 2v +3v
18 = 5v
v= 3.6
