First of all, Good Luck to you!!! It may be scary at first but dont give up...Temp agencies are a great place to start. A few good temp agencies are Manpower, Kelly Services, and Office Team. These are worldwide agencies so I am sure there are offices in your area. Not only can you possibly choose where u will work, your hours and length of time you are available, but at the same time you are gaining valuable WORK EXPERIENCE. Also, a lot of temp agencies provide classes that will help you in different software programs. These may become available to you once you register. Don't forget to inquire about that. It's free and great exposure. It will also give you a chance to see what your strengths and weaknesses may be in certain areas. Keep calling the agencies if you register, do not wait for them to call you. They have a lot of people and until they get to know you, they may not think of you right away when a assignment becomes available. Show them that you are anxious to work and they will get you something. Call centers are a good place also, as well as answering services. I also suggest trying banks. They have a lot of part time positions that start in the evening and the pay isn't bad. You may even get benefits with some of them. (Some banks as long as you are scheduled for 20 hours, benefits are part of the package). Do not let the fact that you have been a housewife for 25 yrs and you have a GED deter you. I wish you the best of luck, and I hope it all comes together for you.

My Mother started working in a senior citizens lodge at 48. Not a nursing home, but a lodge where they go before a nursing home. She applied as an evening manager, she had no experience whatsoever, and got the job. Within a few years she became the day manager, (top dog) and was earning an excellent income. They offer full training so anyone with common sense can do it. She started out as a floater, meaning whichever lodge called her in the city, she had the option to fill in. She made more money doing that, but wanted the steady place to go to every day as well as set hours.

I started a home business at 46 years old that also comes with full training, so that might be an option for you as well.

I was exactly in your place a few years ago..Hubby passed away so unexpectedly and I had never worked outside the home. But I knew I had to do something to survive and pay the bills. Apply with your City for any kind of a job. A lot of Cities hire women for office work, custodial jobs, administrative clerks. Go to your local City Hall and check the postings. A lot of them are "in house" (which means the people already working with the City gets first chance) but still turn in your application. Apply everywhere, don't limit yourself. When you get an interview go in with your head held high and not with the "poor me" attitude. Good luck to you..

Working a register isn't so bad, especially if it is at a grocery store. Just steer clear of gas stations. Grocery stores are also very flexible in terms of hours, and sometimes offer up benefits.

Another option would be in manufacturing or entry level data entry.

A good place for you to turn would be a Temporary Employment Office. Go here, give them your resume, and they will do all the leg work for you.

First off don't sell yourself short, stay at home moms are great multitaskers! If you can read and add you can learn anything and an employer will be willing to teach you. Look at starting as a bank teller, don't need nothing but a high school diploma for that and its a great day job and you get all the holidays off. plus they have great benefits. Check that out.

Temp agencies. They're always looking for help.

Or you could take free computer classes at your local library or career training center, or go online for some tutorials.

Best way to improve your chances in an ever-changing marketplace.

Good luck.

Try building a business and staying at home. See my profile since yahoo doesn't like for us to relay links.

I have a good opportunity for you. If you would like to know about it, just send me an email or instant message...I'm on right now. It's not a stupid scam so don't worry. I just don't want to explain everything on here because I don't want to waste my time if you don't want to hear about it. Hope to hear from you!

Call center work like telemarketing or customer support jobs pay a lot, but they are tough jobs.
