In the interview, the director stressed me with questions on a career switch. Questions keep repeating on why I want a switch, saying its not right to jump ship when my industry is down.

I would suggest to relate other reasons why you are changing. Express the other reasons why you are changing. People change fields all the time. I am 33 years old and I have changed 3 times already. If you show true desire to go into the new field it should temper any reservations to your future employer. I think they want to know if you are truely enthusiastic about your new endevor and not just making a move out of desperation. Good Luck!!!

You should have never indicated that you are switching jobs because the current industry is failing. That indicates that if they have a problem you will jump ship just as fast. Always point to personal improvement as a reason for moving on. Unsatisfying work can be used as long as the new job will not present the same problem. Personal problems can also be an issue but stress that you tried to resolve them first before moving on.

The best excuse is always the positive one. I like my current company but I need new challenges and greater growth. I felt stale and wanted to try something new that I enjoyed when I was younger(or always wanted to try).

Negativity will kill an interview if you can't show them why you wont have the same negativity with them.

Best of Luck

This is not an examination. That's no right or wrong answer. Give your honest answer with some supported opinion or experiences.
