Why do some hospitals have an ambulance stations?

I usually notice at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto that it has it's own ambulance station and ambulance car wash in the back when you go into Sunnybrook Park. Why is that and how are the ambulances serviced.

Ambulance services are run in several ways. Some services are part of fire or police departments, while others are a third city service. More often ambulance services are private companies. A few services are run by hospitals. All it is that is different is who runs the company.
