Also decent hotels nearby the navy military housing & bases? I'm visiting friends in the service soon and want to see the sights.

See the Embarcadero (water front) in downtown San Diego, the Midway Aircraft Carrier, the San Diego Zoo, the Gas Lamp Quarter (if you are over 21), if you are adventurous get someone to take you to TJ, take a harbor cruise. There are many, many restaurants so it depends on your price range. Same thing with hotels. Lastly be aware that some of the military bases are a ways from each other. Camp Pendleton for the Marines is over an hour North of San Diego. Have fun!!

Honestly, just go walking through the gaslamp. There are so many fun things to do and see. There are Irish pubs, Sushi restaurants, clubs...whatever you are interested in, there is a place for you :-)

Go to a site like signonsandiego.com or videonary.com (which is GREAT because they give you a video tour of the places instead of just still shots).

Go to the zoo and eat at Anthony's on the harbor. Drive over to Coronado at night to see the lights. Visit the Midway.

Go on the Hornblower dinner cruise. Its a bit pricey ($60 a person) but its great. Food, champagne, and dancing.
