Mechanically they are the same, just different body style. I own a 2000 CR-V ex and still feels and drives like new, very solid and descend gas mileage. The Element has plastic panels bolted on and I've heard complaints of squeaks and rattles. Also it's boxier and won't give as good fuel economy, probably more wind noise on highway. Some like the "military look" of Element, the easy to wash interior and it's a little more cargo room.

My pick: the CRV. Aside from what's already been written, great gas, fun to drive, etc....it's a much safer car than the Element. The 2007 CRV got very high marks from the Insurance Institute that does all the crashes....

Professionally....the Element costs more to repair, is more likely to be total out than the CRV, and I've seen more injuries from people in the Element than a CRV.

The Element is on a Civic chassis, the CRV is on a Accord.

I owned an Element and loved it. Both are built at the same plant on a Civic platform. Advantages for the CRV are it seats 5 (Element 4) and it's more aerodynamic and has a nicer interior. If you like to camp and haul nasty stuff around the Element is the best. Payload is miserably low, though, less than 900 lbs.

Personally, i'd get a crv. the element is kind of utilitarian, with its rubber floors and small rear door. they're nice if you have dogs or perpetual dirty kids or something. the crv drives, accelerates, and handles nicer, and presents itself as a nicer, more upscale vehicle.

Cr-V is a better car because it has better fuel economy and is not as high as an Element. It also has 5 star crash test ratings, the Element has a safety concern for side crash test ratings w/o optional side airbags.

Element! It's much more fun, while the inside of these cars are the same. It's more roomier then a CR-V too.

I would get the element because their is soooo much interior space, and also it gets more power and gas mileage from the same size engine
