I had a discussion with my Boss, i said that on the weekend i saw people wearing the flag and sitting on it. One was also tucked into someones pants.
He said, its no different to wearing flip flops with the flag on them, or a towel with the australian flag on it.
I disagree and think its disrespectful to sit on a flag.

I'm talking actual flags, not clothing. A flag that you could run up the flag post, big ones.

It's definitely disrespectful to sit on a flag. Also it's not good to let it drag on the ground, so things like long skirts or beach towels made of the flag are no-no's. Generally flags should not be worn as clothing - perhaps you remember one of the Spice Girls who wore that tiny dress made out of a British flag - that's rather tasteless.
Small flag pins are fine. Decals of the flag on hats seem to be OK. Even shirts that have a picture of a flag on them are generally OK, as long as it's tasteful. The problem is when the flag itself is used as a garment, rather than as an image on a garment.

It depends on the intent of the person. If you are a patriotic person, then wearing the flag on your butt is not disrespectful because the intent is not negative. However, if the person hates Americans and America than wearing the U.S. flag (or any other flag) on the butt area is disrespectful... so, I think intent is key.

No why would it be?
We mean no disrespect to our flag by making things & wearing them, it's a sign of our respect for our country & love of it. Guess it might be hard for some people to understand.

I do agree that proper flag ettiquite should be followed (ie. American flags that touch the ground must be burned during a ceremony). It is disrespectful if you do not follow ettiquette.
and someone might kick your a$$

what are you? a republican? they worry so much about the flag that they ignore the important things in life, like not messing with pages, and then covering it up. oh, and lets not forget letting king george do whatever he wants, no questions asked, at least not by a republican.

I think it is disrespectful, and in some countries, such as Turkey, it is actually illegal.
