I have honestly met many older people who have been smoking for some time that say they like to smoke. I am sure that they are addicted to it, but they actually like the feeling of sitting down and having a smoke.

i used to smoke before I got pregnant and I was in the camp of liking to smoke. I quit the day I found out I was pregnant, which i think goes to show that the addiction did not have a hold on me. I have quit every time i get pregnant and don;t smoke again until after the baby is born, not because i have some addiction based NEED to have that smoke, but because i really like to go outside take a seat and relax while smoking a cigarette. I am however not going to start up again this time, I am 29 and i have to really think about the health risks of smoking.

They usually start as highschoolers or in college as a result of peer pressure, trying to be cool, or a way to deal with stress. And then it becomes a habit/addiction. Some people can break their addiction with the help of nicotine patches and extreme support...but as soon as you dip your toe in, you pretty much plunged into the addiction big time.

And I personally think that it is strange that people try things that are harmful to your body, but I guess it's not my choice what other people do...and I KNOW that it's hard to break. So please, don't hate me because I don't fully understand why people smoke.

Boredom, stress, suppress eating, peer pressure & more. They are not good excuses but that is why a lot of us do it. However luckily I have given up and now I actually have to use my hands for other things. I can sleep in instead of rushing to get ready for work because a cigarette was more important. I do more exercise, read more books & get to spend more time on the computer & with my children.

At first, young people smoke to look cool, then, eventually, it becomes a habbit. Some people smoke to get rid of their stress when they are overwhelmed or scared and some people smoke for no reason at all.

I wounder my self. It is a habbit in my oppinon. I am not for sure but younger people think that it is cool. I think that is why they do it, but after a while it turns in to a habbit and they can not go with out the nicatine. Just like caffeen drinkers.

I grew up in a home of smokers, when I got to an age of preteen I wanted to try it and did. Now I am addicted to them.. The hand to mouth motion as well as the nicotine. It s hard to quit ... this habit is mental and facial.

At first to fit, or be cool, or make friends, or peer pressure and then because you are hooked and screwed and need a way to deal with tension and stress.

My boyfriend and I have learned that the hard way. (though i quit!!)

Who knows, but they continue to smoke due to an addictive personality, and oral fixation.
