What number to u start off with when u have to multiply by 2, add 7, divide by 17, and you result is 1???

i got 5 too..

(2x+7)/17=1
2x + 7 = 17
2x = 10
x= 10/2
x=5

just do it backwards...
1 x 17 - 7 / 2 =
17 - 7 / 2 =
10 / 2 = 5

check it.... 5 x 2 = 10, 10+7 = 17, 17/17 = 1

there ya go!
