Inspired by a question from Vanna.

I say yes. I dont care what the are trying to add to the story. I think they could convey it in a more subtle way.

I agree that they should be conveyed in more subtle ways in certain media (i.e. network television) but I don't think they should be banned entirely. Many people (especially women) are not sympathetic to rape victims. By observing the brutality in a rape scene, people are more likely to empathize with the victims.

I think it should be banned from public TV,but if they want to make something to educate children of the dangers of strangers then they should just make videos to show in health class, with parents permission.and it shouldn't be so graphic either. The media is the reason so much crime goes on,It's the same with the coverage of school shootings, most of these kids just want their 15 minutes of fame,or people want to see how much they can get away with.Morals need to be brought back into ever home.

You don't complain about the fact that a movie uses a phrase that you hate, or shows a scene that you find offensive. The movie makers choose all aspects of the movie for maximum impact, and thats their decision. If you don't want to watch rape scenes, don't watch them. Also, don't assume that you know the effect a rape scene has in a movie better than the movie producers do; theri profesionals

Rape is an awful thing, but movies like "A Clockwork Orange" and "The Accused" would be devoid of their emotional impact if ithey were taken out, IMO. Snuff films and torturous bondage flicks would be different. Those add nothing to the context, and I think inspire sexual violence.

From mass media yes but not from adult DVDs, some poor guys need to watch a good rape scene to get a woodie.

Yes, I agree with you. I, personally, vote with my remote. Something like that comes on, I change the channel. And if I can figure out who sponsored the show (commercials) - I email them and tell them a) what I did (changed channels) and b) that I will not purchase their product if the continue to sponsor such things.

no, it's just another (rather sad) reality of life. if someones trying to tell a story, they should be able to explain the entire story without any exclusions.
