A fiddle is the same as a violin, only played in a different style.
It's the highest string in an orchestra.
The one that makes the low sound is called a "bass fiddle" (otherwise known as double-bass, contra bass, string bass...)

But yeah fiddles make a high sound.

A fiddle can make low or high pitches. The notes of a fiddle fall in the treble cleft. Compared to other instruments it produces a fairly high pitched tone.
