I have a severe doctor phobia (not just ob-gyns...ANY doctor), but I really want to get on the pill. PP's website is a POS and I can't find any information online. Does anyone here know if you need an exam to get bc in PA?

I believe so. The doctor needs to check for tumors and abnormalities like that because the hormones in the pill can make them worse. Have you talked to a doctor about taking a sedative before doctors appointments so you can get through them? If you can do that I would also write down any concerns or questions you have for the doctor before you go in case you forget. Good luck, it's for your own good.

You are supposed to have a pelvic exam before any doctor gives you the pill for the first time. You need to just understand that while you may have a phobia, you can't let that phobia run your life.

Take a relative or a good friend with you, and let the doctor know before you go in that you have a really hard time with exams, so that they will explain everything to you as it is happening.

You'll be fine. Good luck. :)

Hello,
I don't know about in Pennsylvania or anywhere else for that mater BUT look at this way, if you do need any kind of test before being put on any Birth Control contraceptives why not be safe than sorry?

A doctor needs to find out alittle bit more about you to see what is best for your health NOT theirs.
Do you go to a candy store to buy health food?- No
Then you need to be given the proper medication to help the cause- Right
Try looking at it that way.

You need to trust your doctor after all he or she is looking out for number #1 and that is YOU.
I know myself I hate these kind of check ups but we need them, to ensure us of early health problems.

You should have one to get the pill anywhere, in part because your doctor first needs to ensure that have no problems that would make taking the pill contraindicated.

If you want to play like an adult, you're going to have to act like an adult and take responsibility for yourself. Just see your doctor. They're human too.

Yes, you need to have an examination. If you are not sexually active, you may be able to have a less invasive examination.
