I have a 1995 Jeep Wrangler and the suspension is adjusted for off-road driving. If i hit a speed bump too fast I literally come up out of my seat! a true SUV is a very rough riding vehicle, not a smooth ride like a sedan or coupe.

Probably the same reason I drive slowly over speed bumps in any vehicle. It's the only sane way to drive. Do you know how much damage speed bumps can do if you go too fast over them? Do you care? If not, either you don't own your own car or you have a tough old, but cheap beast of a car.

LOLA beat me to it-You knuckleheads apparently don't understand the concept of a speed bump. I drive a 4x4 Pick Up and I slow down. The idea is to slow traffic down, a form of traffic control if you will-usually in a small parking lot or on a busy main street where people often are driving too fast.

There are plenty of 50 mph surface streets in my area but most people drive 75 mph on them. The speed bump forces (or so I thought but maybe not based on the info here) people to slow down so that the RED light ahead doesn't catch them off guard (or the police/traffic cruiser around the bend, LOL).

Hope this helps.

Because they will still destroy their suspension components if they hit the bumps hard and at speed.

Some (but very few) SUVs are actually built to go off-road, when off-roading over bad terrain you generally won't be travelling too fast - speed isn't as important as the ability to get over obstacles. Most off-roading has nothing in common with the Paris-Dakar.

Why is there a speed bump there in the first place? Maybe it is a safety thing! People should go slow over them no matter what your car is. Go slow so you don't kill someone.

They have sense. My datsun pickup (2by) does not mind them as much as my k10. Where my worn out suspension datsun will suck up the bumps at 30+ the k10 will get off the ground.

Even SUV's can be damaged by abuse or bad driving habits. They are not indestructible. Take care of your tools and equipment, and they will take care of you.
