Hello smile,
Apple iMac? You mean the MacBook or MacBook Pro, if you are talking about laptops. I'm not sure what you're planning on using your laptop for, if it's homework, e-mails and surfing the Web, I recommend a MacBook. Right now there have been no computer viruses for the Macintosh in the last six years of Mac OS X. You certainly can't say that for Windows, or even Vista.
The Mac is very simple to operate, has wireless capabilities, and a built in web cam for video chats with family and friends. There are many applications for it, including Microsoft Office, if you need to use those things for school or work, but frankly the Mac programs are great all by themselves.
There's also a huge open source, public domain, and Unix ports for the Macintosh now, so software is plentiful. I'm not sure of the price differences of the Sony Vaio and a MacBook, but then you get what you pay for.
Best of luck in your decision.

Vaio because it uses windows, it has an Intel processor and is a far more stable system
imac is an apple based operating system that also has the ability to run windows, however the mother board is designed for apple and will have problems with windows, i highly recommend staying away from apple and getting the Vaio

iMac. The only reason why is that if you need help troubleshooting, you need to call sony. Apple won't provide tech support for a product that is not theirs. Besides, iMac's look cooler.
