It's like mineral oil; it is used for a laxative and sometimes an upset stomach. I can't believe these people that want to take a drug unsafe in pregnancy just to induce labor!!

The greenish extract of a large tropical plant, castor oil has been used for many years to ease constipation and induce vomiting. Basically, it's WD40 for the gastro-intestinal tract.
As any Little Rascals fan knows, castor oil is a notoriously ghastly tasting liquid. Yahoo! Health recommends chilling castor oil in the fridge and mixing with cold orange juice before ingesting to make it more palatable. The mind (and tummy) reels.

Castor oil is a vegetable oil obtained from the castor bean (technically castor seed as the castor plant, Ricinus communis, is not a member of the bean family).

Most people use it as a laxative, but I know some people who give it to their children for other reasons. Personally me, the stuff grosses me out, it tastes horrible. If you want to know more you can check out this website.

Castor oil is oil that comes from the castor bean. It causes the insides of your intestines to basically get inflamed...so to be honest.....it's a time tested laxative. This is the kind of stuff that when you have to go, you have to go....and you won't be able to hold it. You take castor oil when your in labor, and you just may deliver your child in the toilet. Best of luck to you.

LOL
Castor Oil is often used to help start labor. It's recommended that you take 2-4 oz. It doesn't start labor in all pregnancies, and it those it does, the reasons why aren't really clear. The basic thought is that the bowel contractions help stimulate the uterus to contract as well. There is also some believe that the oil helps in the production of prostaglandins. One thing everyone agrees on it that it tastes pretty bad.
Here are some suggestions to help make it more palatable.

Castor oil is hard to taste scrambled into 2 or 3 eggs.

Drink oil straight followed immediately by hot apple juice.

Put the castor oil in 3-4 oz. of root beer, then place a palm over the glass, and shake it up HARD; then immediately guzzle all of the now-all-foamy rootbeer. It suspends the castor oil.

Add a couple of scoops of ice cream to the castor oil and orange juice.

Take one large glass of orange juice mix in three teaspoonful of castor oil and one teaspoon of baking soda. This will make it foamy, almost like a soda.

I don't know but It's getting really annoying. every other post deals with Castor Oil. I wouldn't induce labor in that way, if it's real serious the doctor will induce you. I don't see why women need to do dangerous things that can potentially harm them or their baby. Just because there hasn't been anything on news or internet about it harming the woman or the baby, doesn't mean it can't happen anything is possible.

It's a laxative and there haven't been any scientific studies to prove that it helps induce labor. It can give you stomach cramps and have you sitting on the toilet all day and it can also make your baby pass meconium inutero.
