Great/funny question.....

I am guilty of this ! And yes, I have the option of turning them on or off when I startup the car.

I do it because it looks cool. I got a new 525i recently and I love it....but I guess I need to be more mature and not try to bring attention to it. LOL.

They are classed a auxiliary lights, and as such should only be used when needed. Front fog lights don't bother me, it's the drivers who go everywhere on main / high beam because they mistakenly believe that the lights next to the headlights ( usually single filament bulbs - H7) are fog lights instead of long range lights. Fog lights must (European market) be located below the headlights - usually in the bumpers - and be aligned so the beams are to the sides & not ahead.

Yes, it has become common for the lights to come on automatically. They used to be called fog lights, parking lights but now having lights on is just a general safety thing. It's nice to be seen. ;0)

DUUH Some newer model cars are programmed whre the fog lights come whenever you turn on the car.
