A 13 year old girl has no business taking care of almost any reptile. Reptiles need a lot of care, and turtles are some of the more complicated reptiles to own. Get her a mammal. A hamster or a gerbil. A rat is good, too.

i dont know ALOT about tutles but my grandmas friend that ive known since i was born has had a turtle rescue in her house since way before i was born. But for your first turtle a Box Turtle is prob the best for you, they eat mealworms and are super easy to care for!
Good Luck!

Do NOT get the red-head or snapping turtles, bit off my friend's finger when he was 12.

Russian Tortoises are great. They stay small and are vegetarians, so you don't have to feed them anything gross.
Chinese Box Turtles are great too. They stay small too, but they will need to eat worms and other bugs.
Both are land animals who don't need to have a tank to swim in.
Trust me, you don't want a water turtle.
Avoid Red Eared Sliders, they're cranky and live (and poop) in their water.
Avoid Sulcata Tortoises. They get HUGE and cranky. Seriously they push down fences and take fingers.
