What If? 2 is a book of complied essays of various historians dealing with alternate history. It deals with many different events in world history by first explaining the background information and telling you how it really happens and then explaining how it could have gone differently into a different direction how the effects of the new alternate history. Since there is no one author there could have been many reasons for writing these essays. I believe though that these stories purposes are to entertain the more knowledgeable crowd or someone that enjoys history. Also the authors might try to convey the idea that history is very fragile and can be changed fairly easily by the influence of select people. Also the book shows many close calls and how many different historical problems or how are present is shaped by minor flukes in history, for example, how Charles 1 of England was just a block away from the plague and could have been infected easily, that pure luck rescued him from death. The book is arranged in chronological order starting from the 424 B.C. Socrates up to 1948 A.D. Kennedy.
One of my favorite stories is the alternate history about Pontius Pilate sparing Jesus. I believe that this essay would have made lots of god fearing Christian kids mad but since I am agnostic leaning towards atheism I really enjoyed this essay. This essay was quit amusing. First it talked about Pontius Pilate’s wife having a dream and telling him not to crucify Jesus, therefore Pontius spared him. Jesus then becomes all confused about why the Father didn’t go on with the plan to crucify him. He cries and wails about his burden about sins and blah. Then Jesus is ninety-seven years old and still not sacrificed for the world’s sin. He has been wandering around Israel healing people for around 30 years waiting to be crucified. Now he is ninety-seven and Jesus one day lying on his bed died of a stroke. 230 years later Jesus is not considered as a holy savior anymore but just a prophet like in the Old Testament, and the world is still waiting for the messiah to come and save them.
Another essay I like in the book was about Adolf Hitler or the “”Fuhrer” during the last couple of days before the capture of Berlin. Adolf Hitler is aging middle aged man of fifty-six and very unhealthy. Hitler now resides in his underground bombproof bunker hiding from the relentless Allied artillery and air raids. Hitler is suffering from split personalities from being real tune into reality and thinking all is lost to thinking there is still a chance to win the war and a major offensive. Many of his loyal officers reside with him in the bunker and while some are genuinely loyal, others are secretly negotiating peace with the Allies and some even try to attempt to take the Fuhrer’s life. Adolf is starting to slip and can be seen chocolate and cake on his couch, what a site. Soon Adolf commits suicide with his mistress and then the whole Nazi regime falls under the capture of the Allied forces.
An essay I enjoyed was the one about the luck of Franklin Delano Roosevelt. It talked about how lucky he was throughout his life and how he got started into politics. He is portrayed in this essay as a cocky and confident young man. It also talks about his love life with Eleanor Roosevelt and how it went downhill and his relationship with another woman. And probably his biggest stroke of luck was when an assassination was attempted to take Franklin’s life had succeeded. Then we would have an arrogant and negative man to become president. A man by the name of John Nance Garner will have led this country. He is one of those Texan cowboys’ types that mostly never rode a horse before and is a coward but still tells you not to mess with Texas, the type of man to put Texas in front of everything else. The United States would have suffered under his leadership. It was lucky that the bullet missed Mr. Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
I think the authors did a really good job with this book. It is mostly unbiased at all and come from a strictly common sense historical point of view. In my opinion it is a very informative and a very well written book. It gives background information on his topic first in detail and tells you what you need to know before going into the what ifs and the alternate history. Although the book gives a lot of information and not a lot of the what ifs as I expected but still it was very educational. I also like the fact that it is written by many authors so it switches between many writing styles so it does not get boring. I think that the author accomplished his goal for this book because it does what the title said it would do and it did it well. I do not recommend this book for our honors history class though and I think maybe the IB classes will have a better time doing it. This book is a little above us but I still enjoyed it. The book was very enjoyable because it was like reading a story but I was actually learning something out of it. My favorite part of the book was when they had the segment of Constantine going to persecute people who believed Jesus was the messiah and how everybody believes he is just a prophet and everybody is like the Jews still waiting for the messiah. I find that amusing.

By five paragraphs, do you mean BODY paragraphs? Well, a typical essay would look like this: Paragraph 1: VERY short introduction paragraph including thesis statement with three categories. Paragraph 2: Topic sentence. Supporting evidence. Transition to next paragraph. Paragraph 3: Topic sentence. Supporting evidence. Transition to next paragraph. Paragraph 4. (just like the above) Paragraph 5. Reinforces thesis statement. Briefly summarizes main points in body paragraphs. Conclusion sentence. There you go, hope that helps.

GIVE you a paper? Dont you have any values or self respect? While you're waiting for someone to give you a paper, why dont you go look up plagiarism. OR, you could just ask another question on here for someone to tell you what it means.
Do i sound like a mean wench? well, sorry. I actually did my own work in school and i'm proud of the grades i earned.

If someone HANDS you a 5 paragraph essay, it won't be YOU graduating anyway. Why can't you write it?

You can write about your favorite sport or tv star or who you admire the most.

Format it like this

Introduction
-Information on where they're from
-How they got to where they were
-Their accomplishments
Conclusion

If you pick someone you really admire you won't have any trouble at all writing 5 paragraphs about them. Good luck with your paper.

I can, but won't. Too many people want the easy way out. Enjoy your second year in 8'th grade or do it yourself and feel good you graduated knowing you deserved to.

Well then I guess you'd better be prepared to repeat the 8th grade.

You're given homework in an effort to teach you. YOU, not the people on these lists.
