What's the best method when searching for meteorites?

Look for places where there shouldn't be any rocks. That way, when you do see a rock, where did it come from?

Addendum: White Trash's answer only works part of the time, since a lot of meteorites aren't metallic.

Use a metal detector, because they're composed mailnly of iron.
