because natural child birth feels similar to taking a dump after being constipated for 3 months. now if you know what it feels like to be constipated for 2 days then you get my point.. it is the closest to death you will come without dying. but dont fear it is worth it.

Because it hurts. Some women can not make a sound during labour and others like me need to scream.
I screamed during both my labours as that was the only way for me to endure the pain. (natural births)
But my friend didnt utter a word or grunt with her three labours ( one labour was twins). Neither of us understand how or why the other reacted so differently during labour.
Two years ago I was lucky enough to be in the room with another friend when she was giving birth and she made noise and cried but didnt scream like me even though she had been in labour for over 24 hrs.
Where as I screamed my little head off and my labours werent that long.
For me it was the only thing I could do that made me feel better. I tried not screaming and the pain just intensified, so I screamed.
I even got in trouble with the nurses for screaming and that upset me quite a bit.
Each labour is different and each women is different in how they handle pain.

Screaming is a normal reaction to pain. Contractions and labor hurts.

Some women have a low thresh-hold for pain, while others might scream as a way of dealing with the pain. Not all women are like this, as some can be quiet & try to focus their pain at the task at hand.

i didnt scream or make loud noises, but i do know why some do. because it hurts to have a baby and of course some of those women have no control over their vocal controls when in extreme pain (i had a natural birth with no pain medications or epidural but i was able to stay pretty quiet and just hold onto the bars when it was bad)

It hurts pretty bad. I've got a decent tolerance for pain so I didn't scream, but I eventually gave into an epidural to help me sleep it off. Screaming helps relieve pain too i think.

it hurts! i didn't have meds with either. i was actually almost embarrased to scream too loud, and i knew it made me nervous to hear other women from the other rooms screaming... i tried to grunt or repress the screaming, but really when i let it out it helped (and i got more attention). not the whole time mind you, there's just this moment they refer to as the "ring of fire" when the perenium is stretching, wow, ouch.

If you were have contractions and so painful and trying to push when they tell you to and not to mention a 6,7,8, or 9 pound baby coming out of you I think you would understand a lot better, believe me it really painful. The best part is the birth of your baby.

Because it hurts like you can not possibly imagine (unless you have given birth the natural way). Those of us who chose not to have an epidural scream to the high heavens.
