Any and every telescope magnifies. Binoculars, astronomical telescopes, terrestrial telescopes, spotting scopes, reflectors, refractors,all kinds. For planets high magnification is needed, but for nebulae, clusters and galaxies 10X50 binoculars are excellent.

Reflector telescopes are used the most these days, as refractors have been surpassed in all areas by mirror technology.
