Actually, a lb of feathers and a lb of lead have the same mass, what is different is the volume; the feathers will occupy far more volume than the lead. Mass and weight are directly related to each other. Mass is the amount of matter an object has, while the weight is the force with which gravity acts on matter. Therefore, if two objects located on the same planet have the same weight, they will contain the same amount of matter. Density is the amount of matter per unit volume. The reason why the feathers will occupy far more volume is because it has much lesser density than the lead. To compensate for this relatively small density, more feathers are required in order to equal the amount of matter in the lead.

Weight and mass are two different things. Weight is how heavy something is and they do weigh the same. Mass is the space they take up and feathers take up a lot more space, they are light and airy. lead takes up less space in the same weight as feathers. Get it that way? It's be hard to sleep on 20 lbs. of lead and nice and soft to lie on 20 lbs. of feathers too. lol

A pound of anything has the same mass. A pound of feathers has a greater "volume" than a pound of lead. Lead is denser than feathers and therefore there are more molecules per unit volume.

Weight = mass x gravity
You will not weigh the same at the equator as you would the north pole. Reason: the effect of gravity on your body is different.

mass is not the same as weight....(Abbr. m) Physics. A property of matter equal to the measure of an object's resistance to changes in either the speed or direction of its motion. The mass of an object is not dependent on gravity and therefore is different from but proportional to its weight.
