Can a gynecologist tell if I have had sex or not? I read on the planned parenthood website that generally they cannot tell, but some other people have told me they can tell because of whether or not my hymen is intact, but I have also read that a tampon can break a girl's hymen, so which is true?

well some say the way to tell sometimes if you are a virgin or not is if your hymen is intact which is broken during sex. its located outside of your vagina. but what some dont understand is many girls break their hymen doing sports, strething and very rarely tampons like you mentioned. and im not agreeing with jmp or jpm i foget but shes wrong. hymens dont cover your whole opening only raely do they do that, and then you need surgery so mentraul fluids can get out if you havent broken it yet. mostly hymens are shaped like half moons almost. but there are many different shapes

Yes, they are going to know. Your hyman has nothing to do with it. It can break from riding a horse and from a tampon. Mine however did not break until the first time I had sex. But, I have heard of it breaking from tampons and horseback riding like I said. If you have had sex the only thing the gynecologist will do is take extra smears to run tests for std's which you don't feel those tests anymore than you do the pap smear part. Heck sometimes I don't even realize my doctor has done them. My doctor also acts as my Gynecologist. Don't sweat it because do you realize how many private parts of women this person sees in one day. A lot!!

What everyone has said is true so they can't really tell for sure. However, the gyno will ask you if you are sexually active. If you say no, the next question is "have you ever been sexually active?" If you are or if you ever have been, you should tell the gyno the honest answer. Don't lie! And if you haven't had sex, don't lie and say you have. The reason for going to the gyno is for your own health and well being so don't lie! Just be honest and everything will be fine.
