There's a pretty cool mystery series called "The Robin Hudson" books by Sparkle Hayter that I like... they feature a single, smart and fashion savvy reporter who lives in New York

Hiya! I would reccomend Meg Cabot "The guy next door". Its hillarious! Another thing - it has an unusual style, it all consists of emails that main characters exchange. I read it so many times, the pages start to fall out! Another big favorite is a Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella. That is actually laugh out read! The books included in the series are : Confessions of a shopaholic (also called the Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic), Shopaholic abroad, Shopaholic and Sister, Shopaholic ties the knot and Shopacolic and baby. Her other books, also really funny - Can you keep a secret? (where a girl is on a plane when it gets a bit of turbulence, she thinks they will crash and blurts out all her secrets to a gorgeous stranger, such as g-string hurt her bum, she is size 12 not 10, and she dresses at Oxfam, not bouitqes - and later on, this stranger turns out to be her new boss!) and Undomestic Goddess . Another great author is Kathy Lette - her funniest book is Altar ego. Hope this helps :-)

A lot of people here have very good taste! I would recommend the following:
From the US -
Jennifer Crusie
Meg Cabot - her adult books
Janet Evanovich
From the UK -
Fiona Walker
Marian Keyes (who you've already discovered)
Jill Mansell
Katie Fforde
Belinda Jones
Jenny Colgan
Christina Jones
These authors all produce witty, interesting, amusing chick-lit - I've read and enjoyed every book they've written and I have very high standards!

Ok....so The Perks of Being A Wallflower is a pretty good book to me at least!! and the Daughters of the Moon series is pretty cool...a weird mix of greek mythology in present times and various teenage subjects like friends, love etc. The Catcher In The Rye is also good! I think all of these books have a little sex in them but not a significant deal...it just mentions some stuff sometimes. And sometimes they can be sad but i don't think you'll cry! Hope this helps!

Even before I read the rest of your question, I was going to recommend Marian Keyes! Read the rest of her books, I love the way she writes and she is my favourite writer.
I also enjoyed reading Cecilia Ahern's "PS, I Love you" and I'm currently reading "The WWW Club" by Anita Notaro.
Oh and for a bit of sex - one of my all time favourite books is "Millions Of Women Are Waiting To Meet You" by Sean Thomas - I was laughing till I cried during parts of that!
Enjoy! x

I can recommend 2. Cecelia Ahern "PS I Love You" because it's gripping, sad and funny and about moving on when something bad happens and Jodi Picoult's "My Sister's Keeper" because it's amazing and desperate for the parents and traumatic for the child.
Read them to find out more - don't want to spoil them for you or anyone else.
Really any of theie books are great and well worth a read.

Well then you must read the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. Start off reading 'One for the Money', then 'Two for the Dough'... I think there are 12 books total not including the Valentines Day special 'Plum Loving' that just came out.

The Princess Diaries series and Ready or Not by Meg Cabot are pretty good, and do involve a little bit of sex.
