My boyfriend was part of the Katrina relief effort and when he asked several people why they didn't evacuate, they said because they didn't want to miss their welfare checks. I'm sure that not everyone was in that boat, but it seems to me that when people are waiting for someone else to clean up after them, they're never satisfied.

God bless you for picking yourself up by the bootstraps and getting back into it. I hope all goes well for you.

Why?
The advocates took FEMA to court and said the people of New Orleans were unable to get back on their feet yet-
You must be really resilient and the exception to the rule.I know a lot of people not in that region who believe everyone is homeless, destitute and in need of government help.
Watch the news - you will believe it too.....

Housing advocates are pleased. Gwendolyn Adams, an advocate for New Orleans' devastated Lower Ninth Ward, calls the decision "a wonderful thing," adding "FEMA has finally made a decision that benefits those displaced by the storm."
The federal government is extending its housing aid program for victims of hurricanes Katrina and Rita by at least six months.
The program had been scheduled to expire next month. The Federal Emergency Management Agency says that would have forced more than 100-thousand households out of FEMA-funded trailers, mobile home and rental units.

You should consider yourself blessed because it appears you have the ability to bounce right back after something so devastating. I believe Katrina affected different people in different ways so just because you got back on your feet quickly doesn't mean everyone adapts at the same speed. Katrina was devastating to me and I was no where near the areas. To think people lost everything is simply unreal to me so I feel it will be a long time for some people to recover.

You should consider being an outreach person because you seem to handle it positively!
