At school that is. I get tense sometimes because Im socially anxious sometimes and get those annoying negative thinking cycles. How can I instantly relieve myself. I'm gonna take valerian. Does anyone know if taking valerian suppresses the nervous system? I heard that but dont believe it, it is safe right? What's the right dose during the day? Or I'm thinking of bringing a calming tea in a water bottle. Is tea still affective when its brewed yesterday and its drunken cold? Also does anyone have any other tips? Mainly im working on getting rid of a shaky voice and a sinking feeling and racing heart.

no I am healthy, i dont eat sugar or any processed food for that matter and I eat whole grains and pure food without preservatives. I also lift weights and do situps and walk home from school 4 times a week (1/2 hr). These pesky nerves still show.

Valerian can make you too sleepy to function at your best. I suggest Bach Rescue Remedy. It is super cheap & comes in a spray or tincture & is safe wit most medications & for all ages.

Although you could drink a chilled calming tea. Warmth is better for the nerves & warm liquids are absorbed more efficiently into the blood stream.

You may want to take a look at the side effects of any supplements or medications you are taking. A racing heart is a serious problem. If you can't narrow down the cause, I suggest seeking professional help from a doctor or certified naturopath.

I wouldn't think that valerian is the right route. Taking a yoga class and learning to meditate (simple instructions in THE RELAXATION RESPONSE by Herbert Benson, probably available in your library), and doing both regularly will probably produce the best result. There are no shortcuts to being healthy (mental health and physical health are connected). Some folks want to pop herbs instead of pills, but using the same mentality. It isn't the same. Herbs are much gentler and more subtle, and best made part of a complete lifestyle change. More work, yes, but the upside is you get to be really healthy and feel really good!

I work as a clinician at a health clinic and our director (a M.D.) is very firm about herbs: many medicines are made from herbs, if you're taking herbs, you're taking medicine.

I agree with the Bach's Rescue Remedy. You can find it online or in health stores. It works immediately when you need it and it's not something harmful or something you have to take every day with side effects. You just spray it into your mouth.Good luck to you!!
