Call your state chapter (phone numbers are on the websites), and ask to be connected with your local chapter. Then they will ask to meet with you (dress nice - like interview). Then you will possibly be given an application and have to submit a fee (which varies, depending on the chapter). IF no one in that chapter has any problems with you joining or knows any dark secrets about you, and IF your credit report says that you can afford to be a part of their order, they will allow you to join. You will also have to attend meetings, pay dues, and commit to a certain standard of how you present yourself in public. Kinda like a Fraternity brother, but with less "booze-it-up partying" and more "social and community charity work".
PS. Yes, you do have to admit to (and swear to, I believe) there being a Supreme Being, and also swear that you will not make it your mission to convert other Masons while performing activities AS a Mason.

you apply to a lodge for membership. if accepted you go through three stages of training. if you succeed, you become a member of the masonic lodge. from there you take additional training to become a higher mason, or you become a shriner, maybe both, but i don't know any more other than what i've heard and read.
originally, the masons were supposedly formed from the knights templar and only men are members.
women are members of the women's group known as eastern star. they also have trainoing but i've no idea of what is involved.

Be invited / sponsored by an existing Freemason and seconded by another.

Have lots of free time to study the bylaws / rules of freemasonry and be prepared to devote a lot of your free time to the lodge if you wish to 'progress'. Even more so if you are invited to join other lodges once you become a Freemason.

One last point, you must look good in gloves and an apron and be able to stand on one leg.

To simplify it a bit, you must ask a current mason of your own free will and have your character vouched for by existing masons and declare your belief in a "Supreme Being".

Check wikipedia for more info, or ask a mason if you know one.

You will NEVER be asked to join a Lodge--you must ASK to join.

Masons never actively recruit--the onus is always on the applicant to ask.

You have to have a sponser, someone who is a Mason already and then they bring it before the order and vote on it. If you are a black person it will never happen. I'm not a Mason because I don't believe in what they do and I never will.

You must be invited into the organization. Being the son of a Mason helps. You can't just walk up to a known Mason and ask to be a member.

You are going to have to ask another free mason. They are very secretive. My Dad was one.

What 'Miss Thick' said - 2B1ASK1

Masons do not actively recruit, you must approach them and express an interest.
