haha, it tooke me FOREVER!
but really, it has a lot to do with the type of car you are learning to drive. I started learning on the only automatic we had at the time, a new mustang, and it was jumpy and the engine raced and died like crazy. i was scared to death it was going to lurch into an intersection and kill over right there at a red light! then, after i finally figured out how to get it to work most of the time after a couple of weeks of lurch-and-die fears, i had to drive a friend's sedan and oh my gosh, it was so much easier to shift and i didnt constantly have to 'feel' for the shift at the exact moment i needed to.
try and learn on a nice, gentle, FORGIVING civic or anything nissan.
good luck, and once you get it, you never lose it!

God bless

Only a couple of hours if I remember correctly. When I learned to drive there wasn't such a thing as an automatic transmission.

My former neighbor was an engineer for the MAC truck corporation, and he was able to teach me in 15 minutes on a stretch of highway. The next day I drove from KC to Dallas, so he did a fine job on helping me.

It took me about a week to feel really comfortable with it. After I realized I needed to have the clutch all the way to the floor when starting the engine and how not to try to start off in third gear, I did okay.
