Most people who have lived in the real world and understand what it's like to hurt, kill, and see the murdered or abused want to help. "People" like Len Anders however, are of the most immature and clearly sheltered type of people. By the way Len, I would love to run into YOU in Iraq. April 11, DFW.

This answer is not going to be just true or false, instead it's a little mixture.
Part of the reason someone naturally do good things or otherwise is because of his/her genes or DNA. I would think about 10 to 20 percent depends on genes.
The other 80 percent would be from your environment during your learning stage. Which for us humans is between 3 years to 20 years. Most people naturally do good things because they learned that that is what humans should do, from their environment. Examples, your parents, teachers, older people who live with you will guide you when you are young, and by the time you are grown up, you would think that's the nature of humanity. On the other hand, if you are raised by some terrorists, your actions and thoughts will be drastically differente.

I think that people by nature have at least somewhat of a concience pushing them to do good, even if not all the time. The question comes up when debating whether people would have a set of morals if there were no standards set by religion to judge right and wrong. Being agnostic, and not a sociopath, i'd have to say yes people can have a set of morals without believing in some sort of a higher power, it's innate.

I know i will sound like an asshole but to be frank there are times when I even enjoy watching an old lady fallen down or a kitten stuck in a tree. I would certainly help someone hit by a car or something like that but let me tell you watching a plane crash or fighting in Iraq or Afghanistan is also fun if you know what I mean.

No, absolutly not. Man was actually born the opposite. Example: look at kids the way they trumple insects and trap flies. It is our job to work out our inclinations to do good. The reason why some people are like this or that is "raising". The "nature" part is a lesser factor.

Very few statements like yours will be true of everyone. Remember Abe Lincoln, "you can fool all of the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time, but you can't fool all the people all the time." So there will be some people who hardly ever do good, and some people who hardly ever do bad, but there's probably no one who's good all the time or bad all the time: most are just somewhere in between. Think of the "normal curve" from statistics.

No, look at that little boy over there, yes the 1920's Chicago gangster 10 year old.
He see that little kitty in a tree and what does he do?
He tries to hit with a slingshot!
He might feel bad later, but it makes him laugh in the now.
The natural want is what makes you feel good now.

If i see this correct, you are asking if people are naturally good and act on impulse to help, or is they are cold enough to ignore cries for help. If so, i believe there are different types of people and they react differently. Christians might be more compelled to act on kindness. I believe so. God created everyone to do good.

Of course people are good. Humans invented "good". Compared to humans, animals are just vicious killing, eating and f***ing machines.
