At least once or twice a month, this happens to me.
What I do is avoid cola, chocolate, or anything that can be stimulating at least 4-3 hours before bed. BTW, I read somewhere years ago that if you drink soda at 8pm say, sleep will not kick in until 6 hours later.
Another factor that may contrbute to this usual wake/sleep pattern is stress. This is easier said than done, but try to empty your head as you lay down. Try not to worry about the report that' s due at 10:00 tomorrow, or what you are going to say to your best friend regarding the shoes she borrowed 2 weeks ago. Just relax...
And finally, if you find yourself awake at 4:30am, it's no use tossing and turning, so just get up and do things you'd normally do if it were 9:00am. Watch tv, boil coffee, eat a snack or breakfast, play on the computer, take a shower, do a chore (as long as it doesn't wake anyone up), etc.
Hope this helps some.

Waking up earlier than you want without reason is a worsening nutritional deficiency. You may want to look through some books a read the list of deficiency symptoms that sound like your health. Even though 20 or so minerals, vitamins and other substance are needed to stay alive, magnesium is probably the most important nutrient because the body needs magnesium for absorption and usage of so many other nutrients. Heres some advice from long experience. Get a bottle of magnesium that has only magnesium and no other nutrients. Take half of one about an hour before bed every other day, see how you do. NEVER take magnesium before work. Magnesium slows time and will make 8 hours feel like 12 and it will make you feel drowsy. A couple of times later increase to one every other day and see how you do. Magnesium is needed to make ATP - little molecular batteries that provide energy through the body. Magnesium will give you noticeable stamina physically and mentally.

Be gratefull you are able to wake up that early as you would be able to carryout a lot of energetic activities which should keep you active all day.Anyway if you really insist of lengthening your sleep try taking heavy dinner that makes you nod your head infront television and I bet you will be last to awake in the morning.
(Avoid tea and cofee after 5pm.)If you continue a few days you will be normal again.Wish you luck at trying it.
