I'm going to be playing my guitar at a school dinner theatre, and I would like something easy. I've been playing for over a year and need something simple that I can learn in like 3 weeks. ANY help is appreciated. Thanks.

Benny above has the right idea- Keep the songs simple and recognizable-
A few more tips if this is your first audience-

1- Depending on how long you're expected to be on stage, don't be afraid to play your songs through several times-2, maybe 3 times tops.

2- When you're practicing, if you hit a wrong note or chord, KEEP GOING-since you're probably the 'background' music for the event, the diners will be eating and chatting. Unless they're all professional musicians, they probably wont' recognize a bad note or chord. They will turn and stare if you make a mistake and stop completely. Whatever happens, DON'T LOSE THE RHYTHM!!!(Been there, done that..)

3-If this is your first time in front of an audience, RELAX, RELAX, RELAX.... Remember what you've practiced, and pretend that the audience really isn't there.

4-If one of the music teachers will be attending, ask him/her to critique afterwords. Also, if the performance is being recorded, get a copy, listen carefully, and see what you could do to improve for next time.

The toughest audience is always your first. On the good side, however, is that this appears to be a "controlled environment"- school event with faculty/parents present. One of my first gigs way back when(before you were born) I was playing guitar and uillean (Irish bagpipes) pipes in a 'traditional' Irish band. We worked up some standard tunes for a St. Patricks' Day gig in a bar in New York City. We were heckled, hassled, had beer thrown at us, but we made it through the 2 sets and learned a few things about ourselves and playing to an inebriated audience...

GOOD LUCK!

I don't know how good you are at guitar. Do you know all of your chords.....like can you do barre chords? Can you change between chords pretty quickly? Can you pick your strings individually instead of just strumming? If you can do all of this....then I recommend something like Hotel California by the Eagles. It's got a lot of chords to it...but an easy song pattern. So if you can pick your strings...then it'll be an awesome song and it's pretty easily recognizable to the audience. Best of luck to you.

"Slow Ride" by Foghat is pretty easy. "Wild Thing" by the Troggs is pretty easy too. They're both all power chords. It'll be easier to find a song where you don't have to learn a solo either
