I'm older man, I learned from a man older than myself about 15 years ago that it really isn't at all necessary to copy str8's in our lifestyle. Previously I had thought gay "marriage" using the same basic laws as str8 marriage would be a good idea, simply because the laws were in place. Now I see things differently.
Gays have the ability to protect themselves through the law. You cannot sit and expect someone else to do it. See a lawyer. Write your family OUT of the decision making and your lover in, if that is what you want.
Anti-discrimination laws have improved ten-fold in my lifetime. Take advantage of the laws, and push for stronger ones. Reconsider the idea that you have to vote DEMOCRATIC to get change. Gays can use their power in both parties, and I personally feel the Democratic party has sorely let down the many gays with means.
Another reason why gays should think twice about wanting the str8 version of marriage is the unfairness of the divorce laws in the USA, and of the child custody laws. Make your OWN agreements, document it with your attorney. You will be better off.

Yeah, well, speaking as a 'mo, I prefer the concept of civil unions. Marriage has too much of a faith-based connotation to it, and no church except the most liberal denominations, supports openly-gay sexuality. It's like Groucho Marx's old joke about anti-semitic country clubs. I refuse to be a member of that minority.
I am also really steamed that the gay rights movement leaders have chosen to force the marriage issue on the rest of society without even considering this simple fact about most religions. They should have pushed for civil unions from the get-go and maybe, just maybe King Gaybasher George W Bush would not still be in office.

there is no valid reason that anyone has ever posted in these forums for NOT allowing us to get married. they either call us gross or sick or just wrong....or constantly quote Leviticus or post all the same generalizing, stereotyping assumptions and lies. I will not quit fighting for my rights until my partner and I are legally married. maybe my state (MO) was, shamefully, the 1st one to amend the state constitution to ban gay marriage (thanks for drumming the homophobes out of the closet, President Bigot!), but at least in my city (St. Louis), we were able to register for domestic partnership. and we have had a commitment ceremony. but, it's NOT the same! we are a committed, monogamous couple, and we deserve the same rights as any other American citizen!

ya'll should get the same respect as the heteros get, theres no difference except that ya'll aren't afraid of the way people will respond and they are (I'm neither.. I'm not straight, bi or a lesbian I don't believe in orientation)
The way I see it, Marriage isn't about religion or politics it's about love and love knows no boundaries

Well we have to do something first. Which is stand up for our rights. CLearly no one wants to. So with that said we're not going to do much about it. Which means IT WILL never become legal.
People can't stand together, we'll fall together.
Sucks but thats life... Go read my question on this topic, you'll see!

I think is the worst thing that could happen. Years ago man and woman had a dignity, now they are loosing it more and more. When I was a kid, I never saw one single gay or lesbian, it was a scandal, and the worst immoral act thinkable. Today not only they want to have the immoral as moral but they want to be accept it like there is nothing wrong. Soon it will be literally a man with an animal, (its already happening), and they will say, we have the right to be free and do what we want. I am not better than anybody and I do not judge them, they are my brothers and sisters just in the wrong path, but I personally thing that it will never be accept it as normal. Its like going against our nature, God created man and woman. For as long as I am alive and with my 5 senses working I will reject gay/lesbian marriage for your own good. If you can't fight against your sins, a least I will pray to our father in heaven that He might have mercy on us. God does not see a gay or a lesbian he sees his sons and daughters. He loves you and He will not abandon you, but your sins keep you away from Him and His Spirit. In faith gay marriage will never be accept it on less you find yourself a sect.
