You need to better explain your problem. The slider? What's that mean? Will changing the settings on your monitor help?
Your computer restarts alot. Is it over heating? It's a win98 machine the parts are older, maybe the fan gave out?

By area's do you mean resolution? If so, the newer monitor is capable of much more than the presumably older graphics card in your machine. Get a better graphics card. My opinion, save your money and by a newer computer. I'm sure that would solve a lot more issues than this one.

for the screen area thingy, try changing the monitor resolution
i don't know if that'll help you.. because i don't get your question
as for the computer restarting, there must be some parts loose in your cpu, like the memory, processor, etc.
try pressing down on these parts to get them to properly attach to the motherboard of the cpu.
this always works for me.
or, it might be that your cpu's power isn't properly distributed
like, some parts might be taking up too much power, while the essential parts don't get much..
try taking out parts that are unnecessary (which i doubt there are any) like if you have 2-3 fans, you only really need one..
good luck! :D

Sounds like you need to modify your screen resolution or you do not have the right driver for your monitor. Right-click on the desktop, choose properties. I can't recall if it will be on the settings Tab in 98.......Make sure it's set at least to 1024 X 768.
