i see many people here refer to "my spouse had an affair" and so many refer to "my spouse cheated" so wats the difference between cheating and having an affair???

Usually having an affair means that you have formed and emotional attachment to the person you are cheating with.

Nothing it's the same thing. Some people just refer to it as cheating and some refer to it as having an affair.

I think it is one and the same... Usually though cheating may be a one time thing and an affair lasts for a while like weeks to months or even years at a a time. I think this may be the difference.

Time. Cheating is a general term and could have been a one night fling. An Affair is a specific type of cheating that takes time and effort.

He is cheating on her by having an affair with a co-worker...You can use it like that if you want.
Name can be different but mining is the same.

No difference. Maybe some people think that saying "had an affair" sounds "classier" than "cheated". Who knows? It's all in the way people want to express themselves, I guess.

An affair is a "relationship" that went on for a while, but it is also cheating.

To me, an "affair" carries the connotation of being a long-running, extended realtionship. "Cheated" carries the connotation, of only happening once. He had an affair with her(on and on). He cheated with her(once).....to me that's the difference.

They are exactly the same thing. It means one of the spouses had sex with someone other than their spouse.
