I am looking to buy a condo and know that, before you buy a house, you need an inspection to make sure it is structurally sound. Since the condo association takes care of the structure (exterior walls, pipes, etc), would I need the same kind of inspector/inspection as someone who is buying a house? Is there such a thing as a 'condo inspector'? I just need to know if the furnance, water heater, interior walls are ok.

Yes, you should. But just to make sure a previous answer doesn't confuse you...

You need both an appraisal - where an appraiser estimates the value on behalf of the lender - and an inspection - where a home inspector checks the systems and structure for you. On a condo, the inspector will let you know if there is anything that looks like it needs to be repaired. If there is, then you need to determine if repair is the responsibility of the unit owner or the condo association. The inspector will not know.

A couple other things: your daughter should still also get her own title policy with a condo. Condos can have title issues just like houses. And your daughter should read the association bylaws before purchasing the unit.

You should get an inspection. The inspector will inspect interior and exterior. Even if the association cares for the structure you will want to know if there are problems before making the purchase.

The price of the inspection will be based on the sq footage so therefore cheaper than a house.

Please make sure you get an appraisal. I stupidly suggested that my daughter not get one for her condo and 2 months they found out that the furnace didn't work.
