It still has to meet standards, and the seat belts have to work the same. If you are thinking of putting a Laz-Y-Boy in as the driver seat, that would be illegal, homemade seats would be illegal unless you are a certified tradesman qualified to build custom seats, but there are companies around that do make custom seats for various models, usually racing type seats. no, not as long as you do not mess with the seat belt system, also do not modify the seat by cutting bolts , the seat must remain the same even if its not from the same model car.
