First of all, you won't find many colleges with a major in cosmetology; you will need to go to a beauty school. There are a couple things you should do in order to go to beauty school.
1-Find out if there is a beauty school in your area. If there is, visit the school and see what their requirements are.
2-Research other beauty schools around your area or wherever you wish to go to school.

Cosmetology is a certificate and not a degree. It is a license that you get from the state you are working in. It's not a degree . You will go to a trade school for that. Call the local college and ask if there is one around where you live. you will have to take it for a yr. I think. They can tell you more about it.

Your major will be hair, skin and nails. You don't go to college for that. You go to beauty school and put a certain amount of hours doing the training and then you recieve a certificate. You have to check what state you live in, because every state is different in the hours they require. After you have completed the required hours you have to go before the state board and take a written test and a manual test, showing you know how to cut & style hair, treat skin and do nails and the safety precautions and sanitation requirements. When you pass this then you recieve a license from the state. Good luck.

Do your research...
But I do believe that this is one career that only requires certification and licensing. Of course, you will only gain basic knowledge in the make up and business of cosmetology thru school. It is best to further your knowledge thru the work force and additional educational programs once out of school. Also research specialty areas such as 'make-up artistry', hair styling on movie/theatre sets.

you will not go to university or state college for cosmetology. you will go to beauty school. they are like a technical school and you can finish in about one year. you will not have a degree, though. you will receive a certificate and your beautician's license.
