No sir, Malaysia is NOT an Islamic state like Saudi Arabia or Iran; the Malay people (Muslims) form the largest ethnic group and the 'official' religion is Islam and it ends there. Although there are Islamic laws (syariah) applicable to Muslims, they are generally not enforced on non-Muslims (except in the state of Kelantan where the state government is led by an Islamic political party).

The country largely follows a parliamentary democracy - a political, administration, judiciary system that are legacies leftover from Britain.

As to your question: "100% NO" - you do not need to prove your marital status to anyone, at any place in Malaysia. A valid international passport would suffice. You don't even need to produce any ID of your companion when checking in.

Nope, there is no need any certificates except your i.d or your passport..

No hotels in Malaysia or worldwide will bother either you're married or not..they only know that you just pay if you want to check into their guest room. Simple...no worries!

But if you are a muslim..its the better for your to get an inter-connecting rooms becoz we never know that when those religious people will knock on your door!

Happy holidays!!

Hola amigo,

Que tal?

Since you use Malasia, you should be from Spanish speaking countries. i believe you and your girl friend are not Muslim, so you do not need marriage certificate to check in to hotels.

Non Muslim foreign tourist is not abide to Sharia law (Islamic law) in Malaysia.

tenga un viaje agradable

no.. certainly not.. malaysia is no doubt a muslim country, but it has modernised thinking.. u need only your passport to check in.. u are not required to check in together if you are so afraid of being asked.. Just checked in yourself, and bring your girl friend with you later straight up to the room..
