Hello
I recently recieved a Dell Inspiron 4000 second hand as a gift. Its hardly been used so I was excited. However when I connected it to my ADSL. Nothing was recognized. My IT friend checked it out and he says the LAN is broken. Im wondering i on this model I must replace the whole motherboard or simply fix the port

Any Help would be appreciated

It would be much cheaper and EASIER to replace the LAN card. A motherboard takes a lot more effort to replace.

So.... fix the port. Replace the LAN card.

certain, it would want to get sluggish and really loud. It turned right into a Dell Inspiron 6000. Your maximum acceptable wager is to bypass to a computer fix keep, or contact Dell, Geek Squad and so on, and performance the computer wiped clean. when I did that it worked tremendous! that is prolly merely dusty interior. Animal fur is a nightmare, yet basic to sparkling.

I would get a new network card. Were you using the built-in
ethernet port? I have an Inspiron 8000 which is similar, and these ports are not enabled by default. (The modem works on mine but the Ethernet port is disabled). Buy a PCMCIA Network card and you should be fine.
