i am a first year college student and my max bench press is 230 so is that good i can do 2 reps of it. And if i have a very strong bench press and shoulder strengeth will it benefit me in fighting such as punching the opponent in the face hard as I can. So I just wanted to know what is the benefit of having a strong bench press and shoulder strength?

A strong bench press is not bad in martial arts but it is not a predictor of how effective your punches are. There is a lot more than strength involved with an effective punch such as timing and placement. It could easily be argued that timing and placement are even more important that strength.
Depending on your weight 230 is respectable. If you want to increase you bench press focus on the strength of your triceps and learn how to benchpress like a powerlifter (elbows tucked in, feet planted firmly, touching the chest). Checkout www.elitefts.com for their exercise index. Additionally you may be interested in a writer/trainer by the name of Alwyn Cosgrove. He specializes in martial arts and strength development.

Weather or not a 230 bench is good depends on your weight and who you ask. hey if its the most you can do its good for you. the benefits of a good bench press are that you have a good bench press basically.

There are benefits of benching(and power lifting in general) but not in fighting.
A punch is not strenghtned by being able to "push" a lot of weight, its a different movement than benching

I should mention, this is a never ending debate netween traditional martial artists and MMA guys.

Fact is, real martial arts training is repetive movements and isometric exceresises.(plus meditation, awarness etc...)

Lifting changes posture and limits your range of motion.
Keep in mind though that real martial artstraining can leave you just as sore.
