they dont. its just that older ppl you know grew up in a different era. your parents might have grown up in the 60's and 70's when segregation and women's rights were the main topic, and often hold the opinions they had in that time for their whole life. People your grandparent's age, who grew up in the 40's and 50's, would be even more so, having spent most of their life in a time when unacceptance of different races was accepted, and many people were losing jobs to immigrants from other countries.
They arent bigoted the older they get, they just reflect the era they grew up in. When someone from the 21st century is older, they certainly won't be the same unless they were raised to be by parents and grandparents who were.

That does have its truths. It's an important thing to learn in political science that older people are the larger voting percentage and, as people age, they tend to grow more conservative. Why that is, I'm not sure, but I do have a guess.
Right now, myself being 17, I trust my thoughts and actions completely and I know that I would be a person who coud be entrusted with the world. But my guess is that many old people see the irresponsible young'ins and don't want their world to be entrusted to them and so become more close-minded to the new inventions and sociological changes in the world, wanting things to go back to the "good years" where things were simpler and less loud.

I think that it probably goes the opposite way.
You develop your biases when you are pretty young. Some mellow with age. Younger people more likely to be used to the status quo where it is unacceptable to be a bigot

As a certified old person, I can tell you that it's easy to believe you've seen and done everything and have all the answers. It's a falsehood, but some people would rather cling to what they know than reach out for new ideas.

I don't find that true of myself. I am in my 50s, work at a high school, and feel as 'tho I'm a very open-minded, tolerant person. And I'm much nicer and more confident than when I was younger!
