I want your honest opinions, do you think gay marriage should be legal. If not your answer ought to be better than "it's wrong" i want to know why you would think it's wrong.

Hey dawn18415
The problem I have is being lumped into the same category as YOU. I'm straight and I have no problem with same sex marriage. I'm glad that you have taken it upon yourself to speak for all married people.

Here's a brilliant idea, all those opposed to same sex marriage-don't marry someone who is the same sex as you...other than that, it's not your business.

I think when you typed this question.. that it's been already asked many times before huh?

Well if not gay MARRIAGE.. than it should be called something else cuz many people get so damn touchy on the lable.

I think it would be safe to say to call it other than "marriage." but then again it's true.. when the lable is MARRIAGE... than both partners can benefit with insurance. or whatever those things are...

pretty much I think gay rights should be recognized =)

As far as answering your question.... it doesn't necessarily have to be "marriage" but something else.

Besides regardless of all the hate about "gay etc" in the world.. there are LGBT everywhere..

I'm from Hawaii and we have a gay pride parade every year. There is a also a LGBT prom... as well as LGBT committees in nearly every high school.

Colleges even have it too...so those haters well have to accept sooner of later that there is more LGBT out there than we think.

If I'm not mistaken ANGELINA JOLIE had a girlfriend for a year before she was with BILLY BOB THORTON... =P

Drew Barrymore also admits to liking girls...

And Mrs.Roosevelt supposedly had a lover while being the President.. hmm...

Ehhh... can't be just coincidence to me.

Gay couples cannot file joint tax returns, and usually pay higher taxes than they would if they were able to marry.
If a gay couple is fortunate enough to have an employer to offer health benefits to a partner, the partners benefits are taxed since the partner is not a family member.
If two gay people are in a committed relationship and one becomes ill, the other partner can be denied hospital visitation since they are not related.
If a gay partner dies, the surviving partner can inherit their estate but are taxed at the highest rate since they are not a spouse (and oftentimes lose their home due to the tax burden).
If a gay partner dies the surviving partner cannot receive pension or social security benefits, and if the surviving partner inherits a retirement plan it is also taxed because the surviving partner is not related.

Since there are some religious denominations that marry same sex couples, it is not a religious issue unless someone thinks that their religion is better than others and should be imposed on others.

It is an issue of discrimination, and discrimination of any kind is wrong.

Some great answers here ! I think the idea of saying we are in a free country but can't marry someone we love is wrong. I go back and forth on what I believe on this matter, but have to agree with what someone else wrote above, how is it my choice who can do what. I say it is your choice and the government should not be able to say no. I did notice someone went through here and put 2 thumbs down lol have to love the trolls in this section!

It is legal where I come from and pretty much uncontroversial (Montreal) but in Canada although we have had national same sex marriage for 2 years we have had same sex legal espousalment since 1992 - but gays had to wait a year but straights could marry and be espoused immediately (THAT year requirement was the discrimination which our courts ruled unconstitutional, not gay versus straight marriage per se).

I think we should have the same rights as anyone else. I don't think me being born the way I am should allow me to live my life any different. Some Hetro people keep going on that the flamers should not be so flamboyent and just be normal like them, well then allow us to be normal, give us those rights. We can't be in the norm if we can't do the things the rest of the population can do :-)

of course it should be legal. if 2 consenting, unrelated adults are in a committed, monogamous relationship, it shouldn't matter what their gender, race, religion or culture is. isn't America supposed to be a free country? why should we all not have the same legal rights and opportunities? did someone change the words in the Bill of Rights stating that "All Men are created equal....as long as they are white, heterosexual, Christian, conservative Republicans".....? No!
In a supposedly free democracy, why are there still so many people who are treated like they are second-class?

Yes. A gay partner should have the right to visit his/her partner in the hospital when that person is dying -- and the hospital stipulates "family only." Also, they should be able to get medical insurance through their partner's employer just like we straight married folks can.

All of these benefits and more would proceed from the legalization of gay marriage.

It's definately ok, except if the 2 partners want to bring kids into the relationship. The children would go through quite a bit of harrassment from peers for a long long time and not know why, which is really unfair to the kids. It's just not right to put the children in that situation in the first place. It takes a male and female to raise a child in this days societies.....sorry... :(
