I know that John has a nickname of Jack. Maybe you could call him Jake if you named him John.
My son's name is Mitchell. Not too trendy, but not weird. You could call him Mitchell Jacob and call him Jake.

Maybe Jake or Jacob could be a middle name, and have a different first name. Sterling Jacob, Anthony Jacob, and Corey Jacob all sound good.

I went to school with a Jachin. I always thought it was a nickname but it isn't...
The boy's name Jachin \j(a)-chin\ is pronounced JAY-kin. It is of Hebrew origin, and its meaning is "he establishes". Biblical name.
There is also Jaques but I am not too sure on that one...
How about a similiar name Jase. I think it is a very nice name. There is also Jack.
Other names that I feel are strong yet not too trendy are:
Max (Maxwell), Nick (Nicholas), Alex (Alexander), Sam (Samuel), Ben (Bennett or Benjamin), Grant, Bryant, Luke, Aaron, & Seth.
Good Luck! SD
