Hate to say this but...here is an example...I have a third cousin who is only related by marraige (no blood at all). That would not be insest if you think about it...(just an example, I never dated my cousin). It really depends on how close of a relation you are. I knew a couple who were 52 cousins (dont know how they figured that, but...) they got married and there were no issues. There families already knew one another and they got along so in a way it made things easier. Although "I am dating my cousin..." will sound wierd to most...

The family member make your life a living hell when they find out that you are having a love affair with your cousin.
Sometimes it happens that we get along great with our cousins and we have so many common things to make the marriage work beautifully but we end up marrying some stranger and spend our entire life to understand that person. Would it not make more sense to be able to marry our cousin?

Oh well, sounds like a problem. You are only young, do things together, get to know him better, the crush might disappear by itself, if not you are asking to be excluded from family reunions etc.... family affairs never work.
