i was over 3 centimeters for 3 weeks before having my baby. it doesn't really make a difference if it will come early or not.

with my first pregnancy, i was 2-3 cm at my 36 week visit and was 100% effaced. The following week at my appt, i was 5-6 cm and my daughter was born hours later. I was 37 weeks when i had her. I am 36 weeks and 1 day with my second and just went to the doc this morning...i am dilated to 2cm and only 25% effaced. However, effacement usually happens closer to actual labor with your second baby. I would guess that for you, your labor will start any day. My suggestion to you is start walking...A LOT. I know that walking is what got me from 2-3 to 5-6 with my first..it had to have been b/c i walked a lot and look how much progress i made in just 6 days. It shouldnt be long now so get ready. Good luck to you!

Your body is getting ready to have the baby. I started dilating early too and had him at 39 weeks. And your doctor is right, you will have the baby when she's ready to come. Are you effaced at all?? Your cervix also needs to soften along with the dilation to begin real labor. At your next doctor appointment ask the doctor to strip your membranes. That should help start your labor as well, especially already being dilated. Then you'll lose your mucus plug, if you haven't already. Good Luck!

There's no real way to know just based on your baby dropping and dilation alone. Some women can dilate a bit at first, but stay that way for two-three weeks with nothing else happening, and then all of the sudden go into labor at 39 weeks,or end up having to be induced. Now,you can try and bring on BH contractions with walking a lot. Up and down staires is good for that. That's one thing I personally am worried about. My baby has dropped, but I am not dilated. And my doctor says she won't let me go past 41 weeks. So,I'm just really hoping she comes on her own.

Unfortunately, you'll have her when she's ready. 3 cm is an indication that you are getting ready, but I know 2 people who walked around dilated that much for about 6 weeks. The last few weeks are the toughest, so good luck!

What you are experienceing is entirely normal. You'll have the baby when she is ready. Why would you expect your doctor to lie to you and some yahoo on this site tell you the truth? Really, this means very little she will come when she comes.

It's too hard to say. Every woman and baby is different. Some women stay at one for a while before proceeding and I've heard of women staying at three for a while too. I have a girlfriend that was dillated to three for weeks before she dillated further.

babies are quirky like that. so are our bodies. you dont have to worry about it... 3 cm is small... anything over 5 then you have to worry. there is a chance you could go early. there is a chance that you could go late. thats how our bodies work.
