I believe that cell phones should be allowed in schools for the following reasons...
you can use them as a stop watch
you can use them as a clock
you can use them as a calculator
you can receive urgent incoming calls
if a crazy person hijacks you class you can call someone
you can order out for lunch

Reasons why schools don't allow phones.
1. Cell phones have texting. It might be used to cheat on test, quizzes, and even midterms/finals.
2. They are distracting to the learning process if it rings or makes a noise.
3. If it rings when a teacher is talking, it is considered rude. You wouldn't want that to happen on your job interviews in the future, now would you?
My school is very strict on the phone policy. They feel that even if there is an exception, people will take advantage of it.

My school only allows cells out during break time. But cell phones can be a huge distraction during class. People can just get random calls and start talking or texting right in the middle of the lesson.

I know that my kids use the texting in class - that is until I cancelled text messaging.
Only legit use: To alert a parent if there is a 'lock down' for a serious problem.
Otherwise it is a total distraction for all the other kids and teachers to hear or see people talk or text.
