I think that I learned things both ways...

When I was little, I wanted so much to learn to read and write that I alone grabbed books and forced myself to read, and I asked my parents for help, and I did learn to read and write before any of the other kids in my class.
After that, I have investigated several things that I find interesting on my own, and I have learned a lot by myself.

But I do think that a teacher is very important in education, because no one can learn everything by themselves, and a teacher can instruct you and solve your doubts if you have any.

So I think I have learned equally by myself and by a teacher

I can learn by studying on my own & have done so with many subjects, but I prefer having an instructor at least for the introduction & to be there to clarify if I don't understand something.

So, although I'm usually without a teacher, I would choose to have one if I could.

Studying on my own, I have done many online and correspondence courses and do quite well in them. Plus I find some teachers don't have a clue what they are teaching and should be fired!

Studying on my own, my teacher has this droning voice that bounds me to forget whatever they're saying and daydream.

Depends on the subject.

In general, I like to study on my own but be part of a discussion.
