no, but after asking one question tonight and then another asking telling I was sorry, think I've embrassed myself enough, to skip a watermelon contest-lol

I have. I live in a river valley and the soil is really sandy--perfect for watermelon. The watermelons get super-sweet (I've never had anything like it outside of Oklahoma). Every Labor Day, a couple of small towns near where I grew up have a watermelon festival with free watermelons and contests and stuff. It's a lot of fun. Definitely a small-town thing.
